The Body Keeps The Score

I will say, for me, the book started off a bit slow and it wasn’t until the later chapters that I really got to ideas that made me feel as if I discovered something lost within myself. I am so excited to use and share these tidbits of knowledge with you all as they have really made a difference for me. Moreover, what I share are the passages that speak directly to my particular experiences, which makes me wonder what passages others might select based on their unique lives. I will add some now and gradually organize my feelings about each over time. Let me know which of the below quotes resonate with you:

“Many traumatized people simply give up. Rather than risk experimenting with new options, they stay stuck in the fear they know.” — Bessel van der Kolk

“Scared animals return home. They seek refuge in the familiar regardless of whether it is safe or not.” — Bessel van der Kolk

“Dissociation is the essence of trauma.” — Bessel van der Kolk

“Our capacity to destroy one another is matched by our capacity to heal one another.” — Bessel van der Kolk
